Forbes

24th April - 27th April 2014

We have just spent the last three nights in Forbes in the top tourist park located on the river.  It is quite a small park and we met lots of friendly people.  There was not a lot to do in Forbes, but it is a nice town with lots of history and beautiful buildings.

We spent Anzac Day here so we went to the local Anzac service.  We then watched the clash of Essendon vs Collingwood.  Unfortunately for us the result didn't go our way!  Whilst the game was on Stu and the boys had to help rescue a man on the river, whose boat motor wasn't working.  They had to pull him in using a rope across the river!  Poor man was a little embarrassed, so l refrained from taking a photo of the boys in action.  All ended well!

The next day we had a look at the local attractions, one of which is the grave of Ben Hall.  He was a local bush ranger who was famously gunned down and now is buried in the Forbes cemetery.  After that we went and watched a bit of the local footy (rugby).  That was an experience as l has no idea what was going on!

Sunset at Forbes

On our way to Dubbo we stopped at the Parkes CSIRO dish.  I was very interested in stopping here after watching the movie 'The Dish'.  The visitor centre was very interesting.  We were lucky enough to see the dish move which is all now remotely controlled from Sydney!  Apparently the scientists were researching a star that had exploded.

Now onto Dubbo!

Cobram

22nd April - 24th April 2014

After so many months of organising we have finally left home and have started our journey around OZ!  We altered our plans a little and stopped for our first two nights in Cobram instead of Jerilderie.  We were exhausted from preparing for the trip and decided to make our first days travel a little shorter.

At Cobram we stayed at the RACV Caravan Park.  This was a great park with lovely facilities and heaps to keep the boys entertained.  We thought this park was a good treat for the boys after a pretty boring school holidays spent getting ready to go.  I think we will find it hard to top this park with an awesome pool, BMX track, putting green, tennis court and more!  We all agree we will definitely come back to this Caravan Park again.

Whilst in Cobram we visited the graves of Stuart's grandparents and uncle.  Today we leave Cobram and are heading for Forbes.

Getting Close Now!

The kids are excited as they have finished "traditional" schooling for the rest of the year and Stuart and l are busily packing the caravan for our big adventure!  We are heading off from Melbourne just after Easter, first stop is Jerilderie.
