Forbes

24th April - 27th April 2014

We have just spent the last three nights in Forbes in the top tourist park located on the river.  It is quite a small park and we met lots of friendly people.  There was not a lot to do in Forbes, but it is a nice town with lots of history and beautiful buildings.

We spent Anzac Day here so we went to the local Anzac service.  We then watched the clash of Essendon vs Collingwood.  Unfortunately for us the result didn't go our way!  Whilst the game was on Stu and the boys had to help rescue a man on the river, whose boat motor wasn't working.  They had to pull him in using a rope across the river!  Poor man was a little embarrassed, so l refrained from taking a photo of the boys in action.  All ended well!

The next day we had a look at the local attractions, one of which is the grave of Ben Hall.  He was a local bush ranger who was famously gunned down and now is buried in the Forbes cemetery.  After that we went and watched a bit of the local footy (rugby).  That was an experience as l has no idea what was going on!

On our way to Dubbo we stopped at the Parkes CSIRO dish.  I was very interested in stopping here after watching the movie 'The Dish'.  The visitor centre was very interesting.  We were lucky enough to see the dish move which is all now remotely controlled from Sydney!  Apparently the scientists were researching a star that had exploded.

Now onto Dubbo!
