Karijini National Park - Dales Campground - WA

23rd September - 26th September 2014

We set up camp at Dales Campground with "The 4 Walls" and decided we would explore Karijini from here.  Our first place to explore was Fortescue Falls and Fern Pool which were both in the Dales Gorge.  Fortescue Falls was like an amazing amphitheatre with a beautiful waterfall cascading down the middle.  We kept walking onto Fern Pool where we could have a swim.  The water was quite cold but l needed a wash so l braved it and got in!

The next day we took a drive out to Weano Gorge which was on a really rough corrugated road, but from there we had access to a few other gorges.  We decided we would walk into Hancock Gorge to view the lovely Kermots Pool.  The information on the walk wasn't that descriptive so off we went! The walk was quite difficult negating rocks, boulders and steep ladders, but then we had to walk through knee deep water, ok so we did that.  Next you had to swim through water, to then continue on the walk! Josh wasn't keen so l stayed with him and Stu, Ash and The 4 Walls continued on.  After swimming through the gorge they then had to spider crawl on rocks to then get to Kermots Pool!  The photos did look amazing but l was happy enough hanging out with Josh in the gorge and getting some fantastic photos.  All up this walk was only 400 m but took 1 hr because of the difficulty.

We then went to the lookouts at Knox and Joffre Gorges.  They were both spectacular, but we had done enough walking so we decided not to walk into those Gorges.

Our next adventure was off to Circular Pool which is also a part of Dales Gorge.  This was a lovely but challenging walk and we all made it to the pool and had a swim, again needing a wash l braved the cold water.  On our way out of the gorge Jason discovered some blue asbestos in the rocks.  Quite amazing to see but also scary!  Jason works for Worksafe NSW and is knowledgeable about asbestos and had collected some samples from Wittenoom a few days early.  Wittenoom is where blue asbestos was discovered and is now virtually a ghost town.  Cath showed us photos of what would have been a nice town, but now abandon with graffiti covering the houses.

By this stage we were running low on water and l felt like an oompa loompa with orange feet, so it was time to go and get clean in Tom Price.
