16th July - 20th July 2014
We have lots to keep us busy in Port Douglas, we are catching
up with Adam and Vic and of course want to visit the Mossman Gorge and
Daintree Rain forest. The site at the Caravan Park was that tight we couldn't even open our awning! Not very impressed with that!
The weather in Port Douglas was stunning so we had a few
swims in the lovely pool at the Caravan Park. On our
first day we went to the Mossman Gorge which was absolutely stunning. We enticed the kids to do the longer track and
it was well worth while. We came across
some lovely clear water holes and spotted some fish. The massive trees were amazing to see and we
saw lots of strangler figs.
We caught up with Adam & Vic for a couple of dinners
out, which was great. One of our favourite places was called The Tin Shed.
This restaurant is situated right on the water and the views were
amazing watching the sun go down. A must if you visit Port Douglas!
We did a day trip to the Daintree, it was about 2 hours to the top of Cape Tribulation. We
caught a ferry across the Daintree River but didn’t see any crocodiles. We drove right to the top first to avoid the
tourist buses. We stopped along the way
at the various beaches and walked along the tracks. My favourite beach was Thornton's beach, the water was incredibly warm. The kids had great fun chasing the crabs around. Bizarre as it was, the
next beach we stopped at the water was cold!
The boys favourite stop was at the ice cream shop! The ice cream is made fresh from the fruit they grow. We had a taste
of all 4 flavours on offer, which were macadamia, wattle seed, passion fruit and black sapote. Odd flavours, but very delish!
After a busy few days at Port Douglas our next stop is
Ravenshoe.
