Ravenshoe

20th July - 23rd July 2014

We have started to cross the Savannah Way and arrived in Ravenshoe.  This town is a hidden little gem.  The campground we stayed at was at the local train station.  Sounds weird l know, but there is literally caravans and campers set up amongst the trains, carriages and tracks.  We arrived here at 12.30pm and were told there was a train departing at 1.30pm on a scenic ride.  This steam train only goes once a week so we did a speedy set up and jumped aboard.  The train took us to a little town called Tumoulin, which  is the highest town in Queensland sitting at 964 metres.  We were served scones and tea and the boys even got the chance to toot the old stream train horn!

Every night the camp fire is lit and all the campers gathered around to have a drink and a chat.  One of the caretakers Alex was a beautiful bubbly person taking the time to get to know everyone.  The boys took an instant liking to her and got involved in the nightly camp fire activities.  It was decided by the boys that on our last night we would have a batman themed dress up!  We went down to the local op shop and found some black fabric and made two capes.  During the afternoon the boys had a craft session with Alex and made some masks, she was also getting involved in the dress up night.  At 5.30pm we all met at the fire and unveiled the batman outfits.  Everyone had a great time!

We did a drive around town and went to Millstream Falls, there is a little Millstream Falls and a big one! The views and walks were very pretty.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Ravenshoe and have since told other campers about this great park.

Our next stop is Mount Surprise.
